I loved it. The three main characters Annie, Retta and Gertrude who I feel suffered the most. She had four daughters who she was raising in abusive shack. I was forgive me but happy she killed her husband Alvin. Retta loves her hubby Odell and is a good wife and fried to the other ladies she lost her only child. But she is very protective odf the girls. Annie is married to Edwi. Cole whom we found out is a child molester and get what's coming to him. They have five children one died hang himself sue to his father actions. Poor Lonnie has a struttering. The girl left home when they càme of age and never looked back. I hated the fact Annie tried to kill herself. After she realizes what her husband has done. I live that Gertrude was rewarded in the end for all she went thru. And I like that Annie make peace with her daughters even of her grandbabies call her aunt instead of grandma.

This book is not surprising, but it is oddly comforting in how weird or main character is. She doesn't give a hoot about appearing normal to anyone else, but she sure makes me feel better about my social skills!

Phew! Finally finished this book about the scientists whose work on gene editing resulted in the development of CRSPR. I found parts of it a real slog and parts fascinating. (The parts that talked about the infighting and legal battles over patents were the slog for me; the parts about the scientific discoveries and the ethical questions of gene editing fascinating.) I'm really glad I finished it after having run out of time and it going back to the library when I was a few chapters from the end. Reading about the events around the Covid vaccine was very interesting, and I actually cried when Doudna reconnected with her French collaborator and they both ended up winning the Nobel Prize. Another 3-1/2 star book.

This story was also good. The little boy was like the boy in six sense. I remember laughing about the kid getting sick in the first ten minute of the book. The boys special ability were used by the adults in his life. His mother to help her career. And he helps the cop with a case. And the way he found about his mother abuse by his uncle this book kind of upset me the end about the abuse the brother did to his sister.
